Bloom
A direct copy of the temple to Horus at Edfu. The Temple Mills (1838 — 43) were designed by Eqyptologist and architect Joseph Bonomi Jun for John Marshall, founder of the Leeds flax industry and an entrepreneur of the industrial revolution.
Temperature and humidity are very important to the flax industry. To prevent rainwater penetrating the flat roof, the roof was covered on the outside with plaster, tar, earth and grass to insulate it and it is said that a flock of sheep grazed upon the grass.
The place was then a Kays catalogue venue and has remained untouched since circa 94. The degradation is immense, it has the feeling that it has been untouched for 50 years. Last year the structure catapulted a section of its frontage across the road. This has paved the way for the rejuvenation of the building into art studios, a gallery and epic interior event space.
The once largest room in Europe hosted bloom lasting a week from the 9th of October. Working with Stuart Childs, Scott Towler and James Jelliman.
